Why I Built Maine Thrive Voices — And What I Heard When I Started Listening
By Sandy Smith, Maine's AI Visibility Consultant | Smith Digital Solutions, LLC
I have spent the last several years helping local businesses across Maine get found — on Google, on Maps, in AI-generated search results, and across the growing number of platforms that now shape whether a business gets discovered or gets overlooked. That work taught me something I did not expect.
The hardest visibility problem in Maine is not technical. It is narrative.
Most independent business owners in the Penobscot Valley, the Kennebec Valley, and communities across this state have genuinely compelling stories. The former cop who spent three million dollars building a brewery on the Penobscot River from scratch. The woman from Hermon who ran her best marathon the year someone else broke her record. The food entrepreneur who built something from nothing in a community that needed exactly what she was offering. These are real stories, told by real people, rooted in real Maine communities.
But nobody was recording them.
Not in a permanent, searchable, shareable format that would work for those businesses long after the conversation was over. Not in a way that put those stories on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and iHeart — where they could be found by anyone, anywhere, at any time.
That gap is why I built Maine Thrive Voices.
Maine Thrive Voices is a podcast produced by Smith Digital Solutions, LLC right here in Bangor, Maine. Each episode is a real conversation with an independent business owner or community builder — focused on how they started, what drives them, and what they have built and why it matters. No scripts. No sales pitches. Just the kind of honest, unhurried conversation that most business owners never get to have in public.
We launched in 2025 and the response has been exactly what I hoped for. Guests are telling me that sitting down for twenty minutes and talking about their work — really talking about it, not in an elevator pitch or a Facebook post, but in a real conversation — is something they have never done before. And that the episode becomes a permanent piece of their business identity. It lives on their website. They share it with prospective customers. It shows up when someone searches their name.
That last part matters more than most people realize. In 2026, AI-powered search is changing how businesses get discovered. When someone asks an AI assistant to recommend a local business, the answer is shaped by what exists in text, audio, and structured content across the web. A podcast episode — properly produced, properly distributed, properly linked — is exactly the kind of permanent, authoritative content that feeds those systems.
Maine Thrive Voices is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and iHeart. If you are a Maine business owner with a story worth telling, I want to hear from you.
